March 21 2008- First day of spring

Here's what we woke up to this morning. Ice all over everything, trees literally touching the ground, very very pretty, but not much like spring. It'll be a bit yet before it melts.

Our Funny Farm

It really is funny how some things come about, tomorrow is shot and tag day for my foster fur kids and they were going to proceed right outside to their baby pen in waiting.(Finally no one sucking on my ears at 3 am as i snooze on the couch between rounds outside to check for any more new lambs or kids;) But low and behold, the two escapees(razor back boars) the 1 is our second mom, she was busy all day long gathering hay from the goat pen to build her nest with. You guessed it, in my baby shed, now we have a mountain of hay, with about 5 or 6 little grunters living there. Oh well, we will have to set them up some place else come this weekend. So here i sit at my wheel with my little charges asleep or pretending until the spinning wheel starts..... it's gonna be a GREAT Weekend! Keep spinning and knitting, it saves your sanity.

The lull is done.....here we go again!

Our 2 newest additions, born this morning twin ewes by a first time mom, she's a little over whelmed but the family's doing well. I'll keep adding as they arrive;)

Well Pinkie has started the week off with a bang, having her breakfast and delivering her bundle, a lovely white Shetland ewe lamb. She's so proud! Some of our Icelandic & Shetland girls have wandered over to check her out so you know they are not far behind..... good week for lots of coffee;)i'm guessing! Here are more babies, the 2 black ones are twins, one ewe and one ram and are Icelandic/Shetland crosses, the white boy is a cousin to the Shetland ewe up top.

Handspun scarves & odds n ends

Tons of black coffee later, we're almost thru the kids and lambs being born, i managed to get quite alot done, tons of spinning, some dyeing and of course some knitting(most times in the middle of the night awaiting a new arrival) Here's some projects that are completed.

Our Bitsy Bundles

Dye pots are on, carders going full tilt and i'm spinning up a storm.....with help of course(kids and lambs in tow) I am again doing our bitsy bundles for those that wish to try or experiment with smaller skeins of custom, dyed, blended and handspun yarns. I do offer these in larger skeins as well. Just email me and we can go from there! Talking to a human always lifts your spirits doesn't it?

It's been a great winter!!

Well, we're still sitting with several feet of snow but it is warming up..... lots of kids and lambs have greeted us this year with more still to come;) most are in my kitchen, as being born in major snowstorms here on the east coast is NOT the way to go.Try to tell them that, so when i spin or knit i have lots of little helpers!!!!!arrrrrg:0 I have managed to get out quite a bit as i sat waiting for some one to arrive, lots of sleepless nights and endless days. Gotta love farming eh? Our first litter of Razor back boars have hit the ground, the pics are up top) and litter#2 will soon arrive.... I personally do, but its not for everyone. I presently am combing out the Cashmere Goats and going thru the breeding stock for this year, there is some really nice cashmere coming in,(I've started spinning already;))) and am just delighted as it is one of my favs. Next its shearing the sheep(Icelandics and Shetlands) then the Longwools in June, and right from there to the Alpacas. Yes we're very busy all year long, as crias(baby alpacas) generally start arriving too this time of year. Well gotta go feed the brood, as they are carrying me away, i'll post more handspun yarns and knitted scarves very shortly, and give an update on kids and lambs. Keep smiling spring is coming!
